Who We Are: Fellowship's Vision and Beliefs

Our Vision and Mission

Fellowship Baptist Church exists to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the preaching of the Word and intentional relationships that equip families to love our community.

To faithfully follow the vision God has given our church, we are on mission to:

exalt Christ through the preaching of the Word and worship,
equip families through intentional discipleship and relationships, and
embrace our community so others will come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ

What we believe

We affirm the doctrinal statement “The Baptist Faith and Message” as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention (click to view). Among these beliefs are the affirmations that:

The Holy Bible is God’s revelation of Himself to man. It was written by men divinely inspired by God; therefore, it contains no error. It is totally true, trustworthy, and authoritative.
There is one and only one living and true God, and He reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.
Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man. It is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. In its broadest sense salvation includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord.

When we meet

Sunday School (10am): We meet in small groups to grow in fellowship and engage in God’s Word each Sunday morning. The first Sunday of each month, our men and boys meet together for Brotherhood while our ladies and girls gather for Women’s Mission Union (WMU). The remaining weeks, we offer two Bible study classes for adults, three classes for younger children (toddlers, K-3rd grade and 4th-6th grade), and a class for youth (7th-12th). Nursery care is available for infants every Sunday morning.

Worship (11am): Our Sunday morning worship services begin at 11am in the church sanctuary. The service strives to exalt Christ and foster an atmosphere of true worship through congregational singing, corporate reading of scripture, prayer, and the preaching of the Word. Nursery care is available for babies throughout the service, young children may dismiss mid-service for “Children’s Church,” and older children are encouraged to pick up a Kids’ Bulletin containing games and activities that go along with the morning’s message.

Midweek Ministries: We gather on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm for our three midweek ministries. Adults meet in the fellowship hall for a Bible study led by a group of teachers that rotate weekly. The Inn Crowd student ministry is led by Bro. Robbie & Falla Bradford and meets in the student sanctuary. Candy Gordon teaches our GlowKids class for children preK-6th grade.

Small Groups (off campus): We currently have men’s and women’s small groups that meet on alternating Sunday evenings in the homes of our members. Contact the church or take a look at our online calendar for details.

Church ministries

In addition to our weekly services and small groups, we offer comprehensive youth and children’s ministries which exist to lead young people to Christ through the teaching and application of God’s Word. Church events such as Vacation Bible School and trips to offsite events such as Strength to Stand and Motion are specifically planned with students and children in mind to enable them to grow in their faith and friendships.

We directly support ministries such as the new Anchored Hope Church plant in Sulligent, Operation Christmas Child, Alabama Baptist Children’s Home, West Alabama Child Advocacy Center, and domestic and international missions, and we support others through cooperation with the Lamar Baptist Association, Alabama Baptist State Convention & Board of Missions, and the Southern Baptist Convention.

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper

Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to his or her faith in the final resurrection of the dead. Being a church ordinance, it is prerequisite to the privileges of church membership and to the Lord’s Supper.

The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members of Christ’s church, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming. We welcome to the table any who have repented of their sin, trusted in the atonement secured through the cross and resurrection, confessed Jesus as Lord, submitted to scriptural baptism, and have examined themselves in accordance to 1 Corinthians 11:27-29.
